Deportivo 0-1 Real Betis: Seedorf starts with defeat

Clarence Seedorf’s first game in charge of Deportivo La Coruña ended in defeat as the hosts went down 1-0 to Real Betis on Monday night.

Loren Morón scored the only goal of the game inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half in a game of few chances.

Deportivo produced just two shots on target and saw only 38.7% of the ball against a mid-table Real Betis outfit who took all three points thanks to a fine move down the left with a somewhat fortunate finish from Morón.

Seedorf was appointed as Deportivo’s third manager of the season last Sunday following the dismissal Cristóbal Parralo after the Galician’s 0-5 hammering at Real Sociedad.

This result leaves Deportivo in 19th position – three points from safety with 15 games to go.  Real Betis move up to 8th and five points behind Villarreal in fifth.

Real Betis have now won back-to-back games for the second time this year, winning four of their six La Liga games since the Christmas break.  Quique Setién’s side have kept their first clean sheet since a 2-0 win at Málaga before Christmas in matchday 16.

Clarence Seedorf’s side go to Alavés on Saturday in a big clash towards the bottom of the table with the Babazorros eight points ahead of Deportivo.  Real Betis host Real Madrid next on Sunday 18 February – five days after Zinedine Zidane’s side host Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League second round tie.
