Gaitán heading to China
Atlético Madrid forward Nicolás Gaitán is set to sign for Chinese Super League club Dalian YiFang in the next few hours, according to reports in Argentina.
The Argentine international joined Diego Simeone’s side in a €25 million deal from Benfica in the summer of 2016 but has rarely featured this season.
Gaitán has made just one start in La Liga this season and a further five substitute appearances totaling just 217 minutes.
Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo has Tweeted the news this evening, saying:
“Another Argentine is going to Chinese football: Nicolás Gaitán will play in the Dalian YiFang, who signs from Atlético Madrid. In the next few hours he will travel for medical check-ups and sign for three years.”

Nicolás Gaitán would not be the first player Atlético Madrid have sold to Chinese football either. In February 2016 Simeone’s side sold Jackson Martínez to Guangzhou Evergrande only six months are signing the Colombian striker from FC Porto.
Dalian YiFang currently have Euro 2016 winner José Fonte on their book after arriving from English Premier League side West Ham United last month.
Atlético Madrid signed Diego Costa from Chelsea in January whilst Vitolo also returned on loan from Las Palmas. The Chinese Super League transfer window is still open.
