Ernesto Valverde’s first 50 Barcelona games in numbers
Ernesto Valverde took charge of his 50th game in all competitions for Barcelona on Saturday, guiding his side to a 3-1 win over Leganés.
The result gives Barcelona a 12-point lead at the top of La Liga with Atlético Madrid’s game in hand being the Madrid derby at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Sunday.
Valverde replaced Luis Enrique over the summer after rivals Real Madrid won both the Champions League and La Liga last season.
The former-Athletic Bilbao coach is seven games away from an unbeaten campaign and has put up some impressive numbers, as follows:
All competitions: 36 wins, 11 draws, 3 losses
La Liga: 24 wins, 7 draws, 0 losses
UEFA Champions League: 6 wins, 3 draws, 0 losses
Copa del Rey: 6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss
Spanish Super Cup: 0 wins, 0 draws, 2 losses
No manager has lost fewer games than Ernesto Valverde in their first 50 games all competitions as Barcelona manager. The top seven with the fewest losses are as follows:
Ernesto Valverde (3)
Pep Guardiola (5)
Luis Enrique (5)
Tata Martino (5)
Helenio Herrera (5)
Johan Cruyff (6)
Terry Venables (6)
The current Barcelona boss has also conceded the fewest games of any manager after 50 games:
Ernesto Valverde (26)
Luis Enrique (31)
Johan Cruyff (36)
Barcelona will have the 2017-18 La Liga title wrapped up over the next couple of games whilst the Champions League remains the main target for the rest of the season. Wednesday’s 4-1 thrashing of AS Roma in the first leg of their quarter-final tie has put one foot in the final four already. Valverde’s side are the favourites to win this season’s competition with bookmaker NetBet.
