Real Madrid sign Hazard
Real Madrid have today confirmed the signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea.
The 28-year-old has signed a five-year deal in the Spanish capital, until 30 June 2024.
Hazard had been on Real Madrid’s shortlist for a while and was widely-expected to move to the La Liga giants this summer.
The record 13-time Champions League winners have not been afraid to splash the cash this summer, having already signed Éder Militão, Rodrygo Goes, Ferland Mendy and Luka Jović for significant fees.
Neither Chelsea or Real Madrid disclosed the transfer fee, but the Guardian reported two days ago that the figure would be €100 million.
Eden Hazard is one of the best footballers in the world and has proven himself as a regular match winner in England over the past seven years at Stamford Bridge. He recorded 16 goals and 15 assists in 37 Premier League appearances (32 starts) this past season, in a Chelsea side that did not look very impressive going forward under Maurizio Sarri.
As well as signing left forwards Hazard and Rodrygo, Real Madrid also welcomed back attacking midfielder James Rodríguez from his two-year loan at Bayern Munich earlier this summer. Zinedine Zidane is going to have a significantly different side at the start of next season than the one that he finished the 2018-19 campaign with a couple of weeks ago.
